Michael Williford

HIGH POINT -- Carlie Blake and Michael Williford are busy high school seniors.In many ways, they are typical of the motivated student.

Carlie, an International Baccalaureate student at High Point Central High School, has just finished her senior season as a Bison tennis player and will begin swimming competitively for the school Nov. 1.

Michael, an honors student at Westchester Academy, is nailing down those last few lines for his school's production of "Fiddler on the Roof."He'll be playing Tevye and singing the classic song "If I Were a Rich Man."

And they're both in the middle of applying for college.Carlie is looking at UNC-Chapel Hill or Wake Forest University, while Michael's heart is firmly set on UNC-CH.Both are considering careers in medicine.

Carlie and Michael, however, are anything but typical high school seniors.These two teenagers have spearheaded a medication assistance program for cancer patients at High Point Regional's Cancer Center.

Carlie and Michael have recruited other teens to run the service: Marcus Albert, a Westchester Academy senior; James Finnigan, a High Point Central sophomore; Madeline Gordon, a Southwest High School senior; Catherine Magill, a High Point Central sophomore; Nicole Peters, a Westchester Academy sophomore; Annie Reid, a High Point Central sophomore; Quint Reid, an N.C. School of Math and Science junior; David Sanders, a Westchester Academy sophomore; and Alex Vance, a Westchester Academy sophomore.
