"At this point, there's no plan to move any of the animals," said Calvin Williford, Jackson County chief of intergovernmental relations and communications."However, in light of budget challenges the county is facing, all programs and services are being examined for more efficient ways to deliver services and more cost-effective ways to provide the public with the same outdoor experience."
Williford said if the reptiles, as well as the mounted and stuffed animals on display at the center, are moved, they will remain in Jackson County.
But just where in Jackson County, he declined to say.
"They could be moved to another facility or remain where they are," he said."But no creature will be released into the wild."
And while the outdoor education center is not closing, Williford said, changes are being discussed on how it could best be used.
