JASON WILLIBY
On July 18, 2007, Jason Williby was named Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director of American Red Cross Wyandotte County Chapter, much to the delight of the volunteers and staff who have worked with Jason during his Red Cross career.
Jason grew up about 8 miles south of Oberlin, Kansas in a small farming community. It was during that critical period of his life that he began to form his hard-working attitude toward doing whatever it took to do the right thing.Being the youngest in the family, which included one brother as well as five sisters, he had no choice but to work harder than the others just to keep up with the rest of them.
...
It was while attending Fort Hays State University that Jason first became involved with the American Red Cross. As fate would have it, he needed a lot of hours as an intern to fulfill his requirements to graduate. On a suggestion from his mother, he called the local Red Cross chapter in Hays, Kansas to see if they needed any help.He immediately went to work helping around the office, doing whatever was requested of him.For his class project he organized and enlisted others to help with a Day of Caring event; organizing and coordinating many local groups from the University to assist families that had requested assistance with household projects.
In August 2000, Jason moved to the Kansas City area to work for the Greater Kansas City Chapter as a CPR/FA instructor, returning to Hays in November 2000 to marry Jessica Bieker.
...
Jason is very involved in this community in a number of ways.He is currently on the Board of Directors with the Downtown Kiwanis Club of KCK, an organization committed to children in the community and worldwide.Another organization he is involved with is Leadership 2000.As a board member, he meets monthly to discuss problems facing Wyandotte County. This is a very worthwhile endeavor to help bring about much needed change; it takes someone with a strong desire and willingness to devote the time it takes to help make this a success
Jason was definitely brought up with a strong family sense of commitment. He and Jessica will be celebrating 8 years of marriage on November 25, 2008.Both love to play golf (it's rumored that she is a much better golfer) as well as sand-volleyball where they can often be found playing with life-long friends as often as possible. In fact, this family commitment brings both to take their vacations not in some exotic location, but rather, going back home to play golf and visit with family members.
Wyandotte County Chapter is indeed lucky to have such a man serving as CEO.When Jason tells you something, you can be sure that he will follow through with it.While interviewing for this position, he made a commitment to the Board; he "promised to do the best job he could."While he has many goals for the chapter, he has two which he considers most important.First, to balance the budget, following a history of deficit spending..The other is to greatly expand the Community Education program, particularly in the schools. To accomplish these goals he will be calling upon volunteers to reach out to youth and help make a difference.
