Bill Willamson, CEO of Calluna Technology, announced today that: "It is time for the PC industry to shape up.Computer users are accepting the disruption caused by viruses as a matter of course, but much of this chaos could be avoided altogether if PC manufacturers took the simple action to install an inexpensive security card into each PC sold.
"This level of fragility and vulnerability would not be tolerated in other business situations.Every business recognises that we need basic controls against vandalism.Access controls, locks and security alarms are there to make sure our basic business assets are secure so why is it then that PCs do not have the technology currently available to secure their core function, their core software and hard drive?Disruption to software could easily be prevented by the equipment manufacturers."
...
Bill continued: "Calluna is confident that PC Bodyguard could have substantially reduced the effect and cost that the Love Bug has had on global business. The technology, which is currently only available on Calluna's PC Bodyguard enhancement card, could be directly implemented on the motherboard or within the design of the hard disk drive.Calluna are currently actively seeking partners to move the technology integration forward.
"There is no reason why manufacturers can't incorporate this, or similar technology, on to PC motherboards or hard drives. The Love Bug has simply highlighted the fact that the IT industry needs to start taking software security seriously by making this technology integral to its products. It is time that the PC industry really started listening to their customers.
