"Absolutely people have expressed regret for locking in at a high price," said Bob Williamson, general manager of Moyer Indoor Outdoor in Souderton in Montgomery County.

Moyer was locking in customers two months ago at a price of $4.60 per gallon. The average household in the mid-Atlantic region consumes about 900 gallons of heating oil per year. That's about $4,140 per year. This week, Moyer's price was $4.20 per gallon. At that price, it would cost $3,780 for the year.

Williamson stressed that Moyer buys a set amount of fuel for its lock-in customers around the time that it offers the lock in. So it is not a case of Moyer buying oil at today's lower price and selling it to lock-in customers at the higher lock-in price.

"We offer the program based on the market price," said Williamson.
    ...
Complaints from lock-in customers have been relatively few, according to both Dougherty and Williamson.
    ...
Williamson estimated that a quarter of Moyer's heating oil customers locked in at $4.60.
    ...
"That will kick in Sept. 1," Williamson said.
    ...
Williamson pointed out that if the price goes up significantly due to those factors, the people who are regretting their decision to lock in two months ago could still win in the end.

"[Not locking in] turned out to be a good decision on Aug. 18, but talk to me on Oct. 18," he said.

"We buy our oil ahead of time with contracts so that's how we can offer pre-pay because we are protected on the other end," said Bob Williamson with Moyer Indoor-Outdoor.

Williamson said customer demand, price protection and convenience are the main reasons his customers want to pre-pay and that's why he's offering the choice.

"There's a good chance the price may drop there's a good chance the price may may go up," he added.

April 28, Souderton, PA - Moyer & Son, Inc. of Souderton, recognizes Bob Williamson, General Services Manager of Home Services for his recent completion of his fourth Boston Marathon.

The prospect of running 26 miles for any reason, yet alone volunteering, begs the question by many--why?What makes someone want to run a marathon? And, if this sounds like a good idea, what does it take to get ready for an event of this magnitude?Well these questions have all been thought through and answered by Bob Williamson of Moyer & Son.

Long before the actual race, training began.Sixteen weeks of 65 miles per week were on order, and early morning runs of 20 plus miles became a necessity. The training tapers off leading up to the big day to get into prime running condition, but the body and mind don't forget or discount the 2,000 miles of training over the past year.Bob ran his first marathon in 1992 and the 2005 Boston Marathon was his 24 th completed marathon. When asked why he chooses to run the Boston Marathon, Bob states "It is the only marathon that you have to qualify for, so it is an accomplishment as a runner to be able to participate".

On Monday, April 18, 2005, Bob joined more than 20,000 runners for the 109 th running of The Boston Marathon--the world's oldest marathon. This year the temperature was warmer than normal--60 degrees at the start, 71 degrees at "Heartbreak Hill"--the toughest part of the course at mile 21, and 63 degrees at the finish."The temperatures were comfortable, but deceivably draining. The low humidity lends to the acceleration of dehydration. So, keeping hydrated was very important in this year's race" stated Bob.Bob's final thought when asked how he felt when he crossed the finish line was, "I'm thankful that I am able to still be out there running".

Whether you are an avid runner or just like to get out to exercise a few times a week, Moyer & Son has an annual 5k community run. This year's event will be on Wednesday, July 13 th at 7:00 pm and there are activities for the entire family to participate in. All proceeds go to local charity, so plan to join in on the fun.

Reasonable or not, it's the norm, says Bob Williamson, general manager of home services for Moyer & Son Inc. in Souderton, which offers lawn care.

"The biggest reason people call us and most lawn-care companies is to control weeds and have a greener lawn. And you cannot control weeds organically," Williamson says.

Some customers tolerate a few weeds, and, times being what they are, "everyone wants to use the safest product with the least pesticides possible," he says.

Moyer Indoor Outdoor general manager Bob Williamson said the estimated $7,000 per year doesn't reflect customers' average heating oil consumption.According to industry averages, a household in the Mid-Atlantic region consumes about 900 gallons of oil per year, said Williamson. That's about $4,140 per year at Moyer's $4.60 per gallon lock-in price.

"We're all experiencing significant price increases from last year," Williamson said."We're hearing from customers who are concerned that prices are up 75 percent over last year."

He said Moyer started offering the lock-in price two weeks ago.Lock-in prices protect the customer if the cost of fuel goes up, but they don't get a lower price if the cost goes down. For an additional $89, Moyer customers can purchase downside protection too, Williamson said.If the price drops by 50 cents or more, customers would pay the lower market price.

The company also has instituted a three-installment payment plan on pre-paid, lock-in contracts to help consumers shoulder the higher prices."We're trying to do things to help the consumer," Williamson said.
