Rob Williamson, vice president of warehousing for MCS Logistics, said the company has had about 30 employees at the warehouse since Dec. 1.

He said the company hopes to be able to employ additional people at a later date.

"We're hoping to get some assembly work," he said, noting that would be work for the company MCS already provides warehousing services for, Hedstrom Corp. of Bedford, Pa.

"Craig Cumberworth is the manager there, and he's local," Williamson said."We have some people there training but the employees are local."

MCS leased 315,000 square feet of space in the 525,000-square-foot building where it is consolidating several Pennsylvania facilities to better serve Hedstrom, which is its major client.

Hedstrom Corp. is a manufacturer of playground equipment, according to Williamson.

He said the company also is working on recruiting other customers for the site.

Williamson said the company chose the site because "we found a good work force and the location was good for us" with Interstate 68 nearby.

He added if a north/south corridor is located in the area that would be of "great importance" to the company as well.

Ketch Secor of DB Richard Ellis in Baltimore brokered the leasing agreement and described MCS as a "third-party logistics company" that serves numerous clients with various products.

MCS Logistics and Warehousing was formed in 1994 as part of McQuaide Industries, a Johnstown, Pa.-based logistics provider.Its roots date back to the early 1970s with the creation of the Sidman Distribution Center in Sidman, Pa., where Williamson's office is located.

The company has warehouses in 11 states including Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
