   Peter Williamson, district secretary of the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions said the company had made the unions aware of the problem some time ago.
   
   He said: "At a meeting in London senior management from Shorts told the general secretaries of Amicus and the Transport & General Workers Union that there were no plans to make workers increase their pension contributions.

   Peter Williamson, chairman of the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions, said unions have asked the company to allow a third party to examine the shift patterns at the four sites. The unions have also put forward a proposal on pay.
   
   "However we have had no offer from the company on the substantive issues," he said.
