    The three were on their way back to Toledo Sunday when Mr. Williamson reported engine problems, according to a spokeswoman for the National Transportation Safety Board, which is investigating the crash.

    The plane was diverted to the airport near Benton Harbor - about 150 miles northwest of Toledo - but fell just short, leaving a hole in the ground where it first made impact about 1:30 p.m., according to officials at the scene.
