This year she was as determined as ever to get to the top of the tower, and down again, raising nearly £400 in the process. She explained: "The hardest part of the abseil was actually getting to the top of the tower up a spiral staircase the length of the building - getting down was the easy bit."Once at the top Marie had to tackle the biting wind which at times was so loud she could not hear what the instructor was saying and had to ask him to repeat himself. When the time came for her to go over the top Marie glimpsed down at the ground and could barely make out her husband Andy and son Jake, 4, watching 300 ft below.Echoing the abseil at Tattershall Castle Marie had to climb up and over the edge before being able to get in position to abseil the tower - this being more nerve-wracking than the abseil itself.Once in position she started her descent. At the top of the tower was an alcove which Marie had to negotiate, her legs nearly in the splits as she tried desperately not to slip.

As her head passed the top of the alcove she allowed herself to drop and glide more than 200ft down the rope to the safety of the ground beneath her and to a round of applause from her family and the many onlookers who had turned out to support the abseillers.

In what was one of Marie's "scariest experiences", she hoped to raise awareness of, and money for, Lincoln's Nomad Trust Homeless Shelter.

To raise money for the cause, she rode a Yamaha YZF R1 Superbike with the British team's 19 year-old, Billy McConnell.

Marie said, "I was told Tommy Hill, who I was to ride with was not feeling well so I would instead be riding with the team's rookie rider - 19-year-old Australian Billy McConnell who had only ever done one pillion ride before.
