Graduation for student Maria Williamson puts her on course to fulfil her childhood career dream of becoming a nurse.After leaving school Maria Williamson enrolled at NRC Newtownabbey, to study for a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Care Practice.Maria said, "I wanted to undertake a high level qualification with a focus on the real world of work, a course which would enable me to pursue Nursing as a profession.The HND Care Practice course was exactly what I was looking for."Maria excelled in her studies and enjoyed a very successful practice placement at Ashbrook Nursing Home.She said, "I thoroughly enjoyed my work placement.It left me convinced I'd chosen the right career path and the hands-on experience I've gained has been invaluable."She continued, "The course has opened up so many doors.

"It does help me organize a way to be more moral," said LNHS senior Maria Williamson, 17, a student in Hocker's architecture class.

Williamson said she struggled most with silence, which requires students to limit excessive conversation and gossip.

"I'm a very social person and I'm very opinionated also, so it's kind of hard to manage my silence," she said."I've always got to speak my mind."

Other virtues the students are encouraged to obey include cleanliness, chastity and humility.

Williamson said she thinks the program is a beneficial addition to her classes because it not only teaches basic skills, but also helps make well-rounded adults of those who complete the assignments.

"I think part of going to school is to learn some morals and some virtues," she said.
