Lorene Williamson

Lorene Williamson, the church secretary, said she arrived at the church office about 8:30 a.m. After noticing "a peculiar odor," she started calling church trustees to get someone to check out the smell.About 10:45 a.m., Williamson got a call from the security alarm company that monitors the building, saying the company had indications something was wrong.

Williamson, 65, said she decided to investigate the sanctuary, which she found "full of smoke.I saw smoke coming through the floor."

Lorene grew up on a farm near Mountain Park, OK and later graduated from Southwestern State College in Weatherford, OK.She was married to Floy Williamson at Olustee, OK on May 26, 1939.She taught English at Erick Schools for several years before working at the Amarillo Air Force Base as a secretary for nine years.She and Floy later owned and operated the Trail Motel in Amarillo, Texas.Lorene loved to crochet and knit, winning 2nd place in a contest that involved other nursing home and assisted living residents in the state of Texas for her crocheted table cloth.She loved to watch Jeopardy and could beat almost anyone at Trivial Pursuit.She was a member of Hillside Christian Church.
