Mr Williamson is currently acting as Project Manager for Main Roads' Ready for Business program in Brisbane, a role that focuses on Main Roads' regional approach, but still has his title and will return to his role in Mackay later this year.

MAIN Roads district director Ken Williamson was inundated with phone calls yesterday morning after the Daily Mercury published his mobile number on the front page.

Main Roads district director Ken Williamson said the Hospital Bridge replacement project was progressing well with work focussed on the upgrade of Lagoon Street, which will become the connector road for the new bridge.

"This will provide more parking, wider lanes, a smoother ride and is expected to be completed in August," he said.

Main Roads district director Ken Williamson said Ergon advised it had started early to minimise traffic.

‘‘Main Roads has requested that Ergon consider programming future works on the major roads in Mackay outside peak traffic periods," Mr Williamson said.

Earlier this week Main Roads Mackay district director Ken Williamson said WOW Sight and Sound had been required to hire an independent consultant to conduct a traffic study as part of the development application.

The resulting report recommended that the intersection would not require upgrading until July 2009.

Although the department would not confirm it was responsible, Mr Williamson said Main Roads had an agreement that the intersection would be designed and constructed by the owners of the development by July 2009 or sooner if required.

"Main Roads will monitor and inspect the works during construction.Funding of the works will be shared with Main Roads," he said.
