Leading the collective congratulations was this year's campaign chairman, Ken Williamson, president of City National Bank.

He noted this year's campaign theme of "What Matters" by adding, "The underlying thought is always on helping. We believe we're never going to need assistance, but many times, we do."

He said while the amount raised in Palo Pinto County may seem minute compared to what larger counties raise for their United Way programs - such as the $24 million goal for Tarrant County - he said every dollar given is equally important.

"It does make a difference," Williamson said.
    ...
Williamson said the abilities United Way has to provide services and help to individuals is currently being seen and felt in Southern California where wild fires in the San Diego area have taken lives and property."People there are receiving assistance from United Way agencies," he said.
