Justin Williamson, Austin's principal, said the school's declining enrollment was on the rise.He said 506 students were enrolled at the middle school, 30 more than the average daily attendance during the 2000-2001 school year.

Justin Williamson, the school's principal, said water also appeared to be entering the building through leaky windows, brickwork and awning junctions.A deluge in August on the day before school started made preparations more hectic than usual, he said.

Although classes are moved out of rooms with leaks and other trouble spots are cordoned off after a storm, Williamson said the impacts on the school's educational mission have been minimal.

"It's an inconvenience for us but its not dramatically hurting the students," Williamson said."If we didn't make adjustments, it would."

Williamson has been Galveston Academy principal since 2003.Before that he was Austin Middle School principal for two years.He came to Galveston from El Paso, where he worked as an assistant principal for several years.
