"The reality is that with the kids we serve, the majority of them are not going to get those kinds of opportunities outside of the Boys & Girls Club," said Jim Williamson, director of club services. For 70 percent of Boys & Girls Club members, family income is less than $25,000 a year.
Seven colleges in Georgia, South Carolina and Florida are on the itinerary this year, including the University of Georgia in Athens, The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., and Florida State University in Tallahassee.
Williamson expects about 40 high school club members to sign up for the March 19-23 trip.
