"We know through research that the transition for kids from middle school to high school is the toughest, and it is during this time that they are most likely to drop out," says Williamson.

"We also use the reports to make informed decisions about the format and types of programs we offer," adds Williamson.

"The reality is that with the kids we serve, the majority of them are not going to get those kinds of opportunities outside of the Boys & Girls Club," said Jim Williamson, director of club services.For 70 percent of Boys & Girls Club members, family income is less than $25,000 a year.

Seven colleges in Georgia, South Carolina and Florida are on the itinerary this year, including the University of Georgia in Athens, The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., and Florida State University in Tallahassee.

Williamson expects about 40 high school club members to sign up for the March 19-23 trip.
