The Wolverines will never win the Mission league again as long as Jim Williamson is the coach at Loyola.

Wilkes' coach at Loyola High, Jim Williamson, told jayhawkslant.com's Jon Kirby last weekend that Wilkes was still strongly considering KU.

"Bryce is such a good player you have to hope he had an off night shooting," Loyola Coach Jim Williamson said.

Three weeks ago, Harvard-Westlake defeated the Cubs, 94-87.But this time, it was Loyola making the extra pass to get players open, setting stronger screens and diving for more loose balls.

Jim Williamson accepted the head boys basketball coaching position and a teaching position on campus at his alma mater , according to South Torrance athletic director Robert Kutsch.

Williamson was the 1993 Daily Breeze Co-Player of the Year, helping the Spartans to an undefeated Pioneer League season, the CIF Division III-AA final and CIF State Division III Southern California Regional final.

He was also a star at Loyola Marymount, leading the team to an 18-11 record in 1995-96, the school's best season since 1988-89, when LMU reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.Williamson was a two-time All-West Coast Conference first-team selection, the 1993-94 WCC Freshman of the Year and an All-WCC Tournament selection in 1997.

His coaching résumé might be most impressive.He has been the head coach at Loyola High since 1999 and led the Cubs to back-to-back CIF Division I-A championships in 2002 and 2003.

Williamson replaces interim coach Leonard Butler, who took over after school officials fired LaMont Henry from his duties on Nov. 22.

Kutsch said Williamson was selected from an excellent pool of candidates, including former Mira Costa coach Glenn Marx and Butler.

You might remember Williamson as a one-time star at LMU.You might not know he spent a season as McDowell's Mariner assistant.

When Williamson became head coach at Loyola High the coaches didn't end their friendship.St. Monica even gave up its own tournament that had been held for 40 years and played in the Loyola Tournament as a favor to Williamson.

This game was sandwiched in between holiday tournaments.St. Monica had finished second in the El Segundo event and Loyola had played some of the top teams in Northern California.

On this occasion Loyola was the superior team.The Cubs took a 20-8 first quarter lead and increased it to 37-19 at halftime.
