The complaint contains numerous references to Williamson , the former president of Gordon , though not listed as a defendant in the suit.
Repeated challenges to Williamson's management style shadowed his tenure , the longest by a president of a Georgia state college.
When Williamson was appointed to Gordon's presidency in 1979 after spending a year in Atlanta as a vice chancellor , 34 of the 38 full-time staffers protested.
In 1989 , 18 faculty members , joined by community leaders , filed grievances with the regents against Williamson. The regents investigated the complaints and reappointed him.
Williamson retired this summer after nearly 30 years at the school , following a report by the Office of Internal Audit of the Board of Regents that revealed that more than $8 million in state funds were used inappropriately by Williamson to refurbish and landscape the campus.
A settlement between the University System and Williamson gave the president a payment of $175 , 000 to sever ties with the school.
In 2000 , 13 current and former Gordon professors filed a lawsuit against the college , Williamson , the regents and three Gordon faculty members , accusing them of sex discrimination.
Founded as a seminary in 1852 , the college has an enrollment of about 3 , 000 students.
