Williamson, also in his second bid for an Assembly seat, said he supports regionalization.Under the plan, schools would maintain their identities but all costs would be centralized taking advantage of consolidated and shared services.The state would fund basic educational needs through income tax, said Williamson, the Lakewood housing inspector.

"If a community decided they want something extra, it could vote to raise and spend the money through a referendum," he said."I admit that it's a radical change, but we can look to how other states are doing it."

Williamson also would like the state "to get a handle" on the number of municipalities in the state and do more to guide regional planning efforts as a way of controlling development and traffic.
