Harold Powell Williamson, 87, Colonel, U.S. Marine Corps, Retired, died Saturday (Sept. 24, 2005).

The family will have a private service.

Mr. Williamson was raised in southeastern North Carolina and graduated from Windsor High School in 1936.He entered the Marine Corps as a private and prior to the U.S. entry into World War II, he served for two years as a diplomatic courier between the State Department in Washington and the U.S. Embassy in London and the Legation in Lisbon, Portugal.During the Battle of Britain, he met his future wife, Jean Theg.

By July 1942, Mr. Williamson enrolled in Officer Candidate School and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps.He graduated first in his class of 263 students.
