  Glenn Williamson has held many notable senior leadership positions during his 21-year career in the insurance industry, culminating with his appointment as the first Executive Director of the General Insurance OmbudService (GIO) effective May 2005.As Executive Director, Glenn's role will entail managing GIO's strategic operations and working to enhance GIO's profile with federal and provincial governments, key stakeholders, consumers and related consumer organizations.
  
  Glenn brings to GIO a distinguished and tenured executive background in industry best practices on consumer complaint handling.He has served asOmbudsman Liaison for a variety of insurance companies throughout his career, helping to develop company complaints handling protocol and reporting mechanisms.
  
  Prior to his appointment with GIO, Glenn was the Regional Vice-President, Toronto for Optimum Frontier Insurance Company (OFIC) from 2000 to 2005.
  
  From 1998 to 2000, Glenn held the position of Underwriting Manager for The General Insurance Company of Royal Bank of Canada.Glenn also held the position of Manager of Branch Operations/Projects for General Accident Assurance Company from 1996 to 1998.
  
  Beginning his career in the insurance industry in 1984 as Trainee Supervisor for State Farm Insurance he received successive promotions leading to the role of Operations Superintendent for State Farm Insurance.During his tenure of 12 years with State Farm he was elected Vice-President of the State Farm Credit Union.
  
  Glenn graduated from McMaster University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree.He also holds an Associateship and Fellowship from the Insurance Institute of Canada and the designation F.C.I.P.
  
  Glenn is active in community volunteerism, most notably coaching for the Clarington Recreational Hockey League.His interests include horse racing and breeding with Standardbred Canada, a variety of sports activities and woodworking.
