Dortha Williamson, retired principal at Spring Hill Elementary, will serve as acting principal until a permanent replacement is hired, Superintendent David Roach said Wednesday.

Spring Hill principal Dortha Williamson recently told the Cabell County School Board that there are, in effect, two schools located in the Spring Hill building.She also testified that the extended school is doing very well.

Because the program was running in isolation, teachers really didn't have a choice but to go back to the regular, said Dortha Williamson, a former principal at the school who retired in 2001.If the school offered just modified, it would lose students and therefore lose staff.

"The teachers at Spring Hill are wonderful," said Williamson, who was in charge at the school when year-round scheduling started."They're dedicated.They're there.Some really couldn't move to (only offering) a modified program, and you don't want to lose teachers who are a backbone to that building."
