Dorothy Dale Williamson
Dorothy Dale Williamson of St. Albans, died Feb. 8, 2004, after a valiant fight against Parkinson's disease.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Dale Williamson; sons, Dale of St. Albans, Kent and Lance of Houston, Texas; sisters, Mary Frances Good of Pawhuska, Okla., and Jenny Geraldine Lutz of Houston; and four grandchildren, ages 8 to 12, whom she adored.
Dorothy was born at Enid, Okla., Feb. 8, 1921, and attended public schools there.She attended Phillips University (Enid) and the University of Oklahoma (Norman) to obtain a BS degree in chemistry.Later she obtained an MS in counseling at Marshall University.
During World War II, Dorothy worked as a chemist in the DuPont powder plant at Prior, Okla. After coming to St. Albans and starting a family, she taught mathematics at St. Albans High School.Near the end of 19 years of teaching, she received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics in 1984.Colleagues, former students and parents of students from all over the country recommended her for that award.She was a member of the teacher's sorority, Kappa Delta Pi, and the mathematics fraternity, Pi Lambda Upsilon.She was a member of the Christian Science Church of St. Albans.
In 17 years of retirement, she enjoyed books, knitting, travel and music.She visited 25 different countries and spread some goodwill for America wherever she went.She will be missed as a longtime attendee of the Charleston Symphony and Charleston Chamber Music.
