The private school opened its doors Sept. 18, 1957, according to Christopher Williamson, head of Applewild.Fifty years later, Applewild closed their school day with a celebration.
"This was the perfect way to celebrate the school's 50 years," Williamson said.

Williamson and Critz discussed the school's anniversary at a parent faculty dinner before the school year started.
...
Aerial photographs of the campus and students were a tradition in the school's history, according to Williamson.

Applewild's history and anniversary go far beyond Tuesday's celebration, Williamson said.
Williamson pointed out a message Palmieri wrote on the cafeteria board for the students to see.
...
Palmieri writes an inspiring quote on the board every day, according to Williamson.
...
"That's very emblematic of our school," Williamson said of Palmieri's message."At some places, the food staff doesn't feel like part of the school. It goes to show that everyone here is involved."
The curriculum for the 283 enrolled students this academic year includes information on the school's history and the school's opening year of 1957.
"We are talking to the students about what was happening in 1957 and what wasn't," Williamson said."You had Sputnik, Elvis Presley, Heartbreak Hotel, Jack Kerouac and 'On the Road.'"
The students already learned the New England Patriots didn't exist in 1957 and that the Red Sox hadn't won in 40 years, according to Williamson.
"They are usually most surprised to learn those facts," Williamson said.
