Canyon3D 2 Drivers - 08:23 EST Looks like the developers at ESS have been busy.
...
I received some new drivers from ESS the other day (Chris from AskChris@3dai.com hooked me up) and I've been running them in a couple of flavors of Windows. My most recent encounter has been with Windows XP RC1. The Canyon3D-2 works out of the box in WinXP, and quite well. I only started using it today, but so far with UT, Black and White (one lock-up), and Quake3:Arena I haven't had any audio problems. Looks like ESS is changing their ways on drivers! Hopefully the trend will continue ;) Oh, and just FYI, I won't be reviewing the Canyon3D-2. Reason being is that I've been running Alpha/Beta/RC drivers for a while now and am quite familiar with the card. Todd and Anoop will give you a fresh opinion!

Anyway, Chris Williamson (driver developer at ESS Technology) has answered a couple questions that were sent in. Go here to read the column! And if you have questions for Chris, email him! - Steve
New Philips Drivers - 19:47 EST Thanks to HaloEighty8, he sends word that Philips has released new drivers for all three of the Philips cards. Please note, that these drivers are downloadable so no more of that autoupdate crap. The page doesn't say what version #s, but here's what Halo said:

Also, Chris has answered one of the 3 questions that we have. I expect the full answers either Monday or Tuesday. Have a good weekend! - Steve

Updated Via Drivers - 20:36 EST

I've asked Chris Williamson from ESS Technology to help out with our new "Ask Chris" column. Yea, like VoodooExtreme, where YOU the reader, can ask Chris questions about driver development, audio principles, and movie choices. Chris is helping out on the Canyon3D 2 project, the Allegro-1 development, and in a previous job, worked at Crystal (he's been around a little, but in a good way). So, keeping that in mind, fire away the questions! - Steve (Don't forget our Forums!)
Vortex2, Via, Win2k Fix - 13:29 EST For daring Aureal card owners, Lost Universe has posted a workaround that may help those with Via and Win2k setups. This may be worth looking at if the audio cuts out on you under Win2k frequently.
Firstly whilst this hack was developed to solve issues with Vortex2 cards run under Windows2000 on a VIA chipset motherboard, it may resolve some issues with differing setups. Therefore if you have a Vortex based card which is suffering from bugs (especially to do with sound drop off) I strongly suggest you give the guide a go even if to just report your results. -
