C. Ivey Williamson, MD, of Mobile, and W. Earle Riley, MD, of Birmingham were selected this year to receive the Ira L. Meyers Service Award, which is presented to members of the Medical Association who have served the medical profession faithfully and meritoriously during their lifetime.

Dr. Williamson, who died earlier this year, practiced medicine with the Internal Medicine Center, formerly known as Eichold, Wright and Williamson.He volunteered as a police surgeon for more than 25 years for the Mobile Police Department and Mobile County Sheriff's Department.As part of his services, he would assist the Tactical Response Unit and provide medical attention if officers or civilians were wounded.He served as chairman of the Mobile County Emergency Medical Services and was a member of the Mobile County Communications District Board of Commissioners, which controls 911.In May 2002, he received the Mobile Police Department's Citizen Assistance Award.He has served on the Medical Association's Board of Censors and later served as vice president of the Mobile County Medical Society among other leadership positions.
