Zahra Williams, Assistant Principal
Ms. Williams graduated with a BA from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, majored in child studies, psychology, and elementary education.She is certified by the State of Minnesota in elementary education.Ms. Williams has taken graduate classes in curriculum and teaching methods.She is pursuing her master's degree in educational leadership and administration, with a type 75 certification for principalship, at the University of Illinois at Chicago.Ms. Williams worked fifteen years in the college counseling office at Northfield Mount Hermon School (MA).While in college seeking her BA, she worked five years in the admissions office at Macalester College (MN).During the summers she was administrator for the local Muslim summer school.Ms. Williams taught at the Muslim Community School (MN) for two years ; when the school closed, she started the Home School.Within three years the Home School reached a student population of 57 students.The school relocated to the Islamic Center of Minnesota, and became Al-Amal School.Ms. Williams was a teacher, principal, and board member at the school.In 1996, Ms. Williams came to Universal School to teach 6th grade math and science, and Islamic studies to 7, 8, 9, and 10th grade girls.From 1997 to the present, Ms. Williams has been the assistant principal, dealing with administrative duties.She also has taught 7th grade remedial reading, biology, and environmental science for Universal.
