Bill Williams, director of education for the Connecticut Restaurant Association, said breathalyzers would work better in bars and clubs, where there are several points of access to alcohol, than in restaurants.

He added, however, that the association would be in favor of such a proposal if the state also required that one server on the premises be trained to identify people who are above the legal limit.A breathalyzer could then be used as a tool to validate that.

"We believe that would be acceptable," he said.
