    Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Capt. Tammy Williams said the incident happened shortly after 11 a.m. at an ATM on Central Avenue near Thomas Avenue.She said the victim spotted a suspect getting out of a car with a gun.

    The victim, knowing a robbery attempt was likely, got on his scooter and drove off.Williams said the victim heard gunshots and then realized he had been struck in the upper back.The victim drove a short distance away and called police.

    Williams said the victim was transported to an area hospital.There is no word on his condition.
