"The Commerce Business Daily is now obsolete as a publicly accessible source for procurement notices," said Sharon Williams, director of the Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) at Marietta College."Federal agencies are now required to post their notices with Federal Business Opportunities."
Since October 2001, agencies have made notices accessible through both the Commerce Business Daily (CBD) and Federal Business Opportunities ("FedBizOpps" http://www.fedbizopps.gov), allowing vendors and agencies time to become familiar with the new venue, which became the exclusive official source Jan.2.
"PTAC wanted to help in getting this information out to the public," said Williams."It's important that businesses know how to find opportunities to sell their products or services to government agencies."
According to Williams, spreading the news is not the only way PTAC can help Ohio businesses.
"We have available tools that can help a business become aware of government agencies who might buy their products or services, and we have the expertise to help them narrow their focus to the ones that match best," she said.
Williams said that PTAC would also help businesses through the entire bid/procurement process, from decoding the acronym used by the agency to clarifying specifications, or writing proposals.
Housed with MC's Small Business Development Center at 213 Fourth St., Marietta, the PTAC at Marietta College is part of the Appalachian Consortium serving 17 eastern and southeastern Ohio counties.
The Center provides marketing, one-on-one training, seminars, direct counseling, bid preparation, post award assistance and individualized research as well as an electronic bid-matching service, product and procurement histories, military specifications and trade events.
