    Fred has been of counsel with James, McElroy and Diehl since late 2004 when he retired after thirty-eight years as a lawyer with several federal agencies. He has represented and counseled persons involved in white collar criminal investigations, civil litigation and innovative business plans. These cases have included allegations of insider trading, computer crimes, Lanham Act violations, health care fraud, accounting fraud, political corruption, tax fraud, securities fraud market manipulation and unauthorized trading by broker-dealers, theft of trade secrets and confidential information by former employees and violations of non-compete and non-disclosure agreements, copyright and trademark and issues relating to computer searches, wiretaps and surveillance of electronic communications.

    A graduate of Duke University in 1965, Fred completed most courses for a doctorate in economics at UNC-Chapel Hill in 1970 before receiving his J.D. in 1978 from Columbus School of Law at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. He is a former federal prosecutor in Charlotte and served in senior positions with the Federal Trade Commission and the Office of Inspector General as well as extensive work for a United States Senator from each major political party.
