Atlanta, GA- Former Nicholls standout softball player, Ann Williams-Planas, lost her battle with cancer on Sunday, Feb. 5.
The former all-conference shortstop, who played for the Colonels from 1989 to 1992, is survived by her husband, Martin, son Ryan (5) and daughter Angelina (2).
Williams-Planas, who was only 35-years-old, went on to play professionally for the Colorado Silver Bullets after graduating from Nicholls.In 1994, she appeared in 13 games as a pitcher and designated hitter.
After her stint with the Silver Bullets, she spent five years as head coach of the fastpitch softball team at Berkmar High School in Lilburn, GA. Williams-Planas built a solid fastpitch program at Berkmar where she guided the team to four state AAAA Tournaments in five years.
Williams moved on to coach at Georgia Southwestern State University where she compiled three Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference Championships.Williams-Planas ended her career at GSW with a 111-47 record and won both GACC and Region XIII Coach of the Year awards after the 2001 season.
