"It will be important for people to come because hunger is quite invisible," Wiley said."A demonstration that will raise awareness of hunger and food availability worldwide is a reminder that we want people going away saying, ‘I learned something.' "

Wiley added that, after the holiday season passes, people tend to forget that hunger issues stretch much farther into the year.She said it becomes less of a consideration, so donations tend to drop off.

"Needy people who are rural (are) easier to be invisible versus the city community," Wiley said.

Wiley said the goal is to raise $5,000.

Staff also noted a discussion with Carolyn Wiley, executive director of the Riverside County Children & Families Commission regarding funding a media advertisement campaign in the Coachella Valley.
