"We expect 600 to 800 trucks from all over the United States," said Lenny Wild of Newton, ATHS regional vice president for Kansas.
"And we normally have people from Australia, Poland, New Zealand, all around the world, at the national convention."
"You get to meet a lot of people (interested in trucks), and sometimes this is the only time you get to see them every year," Wild said.
With high fuel prices, he expects some ATHS members to team up, four or five to a vehicle, to journey to the convention.
The ATHS show is free and open to the public, he said."No trophies, no prizes, just camaraderie."
Members of the ATHS will spend their off-hours touring area attractions such as the Kansas Cosmosphere, the Hutchinson salt mine museum, the McPherson College Auto Restoration Program, the AGCO manufacturing facility at Hesston and the historic B-29 bomber known as "Doc" in Wichita, Wild said.
"It will be a great opportunity for everybody. We'll have everything from 1908 International high-wheelers to 1980s big rigs and everything in between," said Wild, who will be exhibiting several heavy trucks from his own collection.
