"A lot of people who drive a lot are feeling the pinch now"; Terry White, CVGA acting Executive Officer, says.
"Now's the time to start to talk about alternative fuels. There are councils - city councils - throughout Australia, along with our councils in the Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance, that have been very interested in the option of purchasing bio-diesel fuels to 'shandy' fossil fuels in their diesel fleet engines, and therefore realise an economic benefit - and also an environmental benefit".
Newcastle City Council and Camden City Council, both in NSW, have been experimenting with that process for the last 18 months.
"They've trialled 100 per cent bio-diesel - vegetable oil - 80 per cent, 40 per cent, 60 per cent, 20 per cent. It seems that the optimum is 20 per cent, mixed with a fossil fuel addition"; Mr White says.
