Susan White, who teaches the Aboriginal Media program at the school, is employed by Loyalist College and a member of the striking Ontario Public Service Employees Union, but she is still teaching her usual three days a week at FNTI.
"I'm on secondment to First Nations Technical Institute," White explained."They purchase my services from Loyalist College."
White is working through a long-term contract between the two schools.During a normal workweek, she isn't affiliated with Loyalist in any way.
FNTI has partnerships with other Ontario colleges, such as Humber and Canadore.Students who graduate from the Aboriginal Media program earn a joint diploma.
"It's a FNTI diploma and it's also a Humber diploma; and Humber calls it Journalism Aboriginal Profile," White said.
White went on to explain that FNTI is not part of the community college system; it's an independent college and therefore, is not unionized.
Although not directly affected, White expressed that she is still supportive of her colleagues in the Ontario college system during this strike.
"We just hope it's over soon," she said.
