Mary E. White
...
Nominee Name: Mary E. White
...
Mary White has worked for the Lenawee and Monroe Conservation Districts for three years. She came into the Groundwater Stewardship Program and took charge of a program that previous staff had struggle with to meet annual goals and turned it into one that is very successful.
Each year Mary has met or exceeded most of her goals. She has recruited groundwater team members who are active and involved in many groundwater issues in both counties. Last year Mary established a Karst Area Task Force to address issues pertaining to the groundwater risks in the Karst Area that is located in Monroe and parts of Lenawee County's. This group has conducted information meetings for local officials and coordinated a bus tour of the larger Karst Areas.
Mary worked on the pilot program with MDA, which required her to work with livestock producers to develop comprehensive waste nutrient plans that will help to protect them from Right to Farm nuisance claims. She coordinated several meeting for the producers, which included staff from MDA, NRCS and MSU. These meetings were all well attended by producers from Hillsdale and Lenawee County's.
Mary has assisted over the past three years with the Lenawee County Center of Excellence. She was given her own test plots at the demonstration farm and takes part in our annual Field Day as a presenter. With her communication background and connections, she has done much to promote the field day annually. Last year she coorindinated a media day for the Center prior to our actual field day.
Mary is a real asset to our total program in Lenawee County and is deserving of this recognition. She is always willing to help where needed.
