Dr. Joseph White, founder and chief executive officer of the Optimum Health Institute in Jackson, is not convinced.

"A pesticide is designed by its very nature to kill things," says White, a diplomat of the American Board of Anti-Aging Medicine who is board certified in internal and emergency medicine.

"He was more in tune to what I was talking about," Greenfield said about White.Instead of prescribing medications, she was asked to adhere to a specific diet, received detoxification treatments and was asked to commit to a designer exercise program.

"Within two weeks, I saw change," she said noting that she had lost weight and was sleeping soundly; the excessive sweating condition: obliterated.

The OHI Wellness Clinic offers - along with traditional treatment options - herbal supplements, detoxifications and nutritional education.White believes that a knowledgeable patient becomes invested in their treatment.He celebrates that type of patient and said they would truly appreciate the OHI experience.

Nutritional seminars and academic sessions will soon be available to the public.The courses are being produced to teach OHI patients and other community members the importance of exercise (the spa has an in-house gym), proper food preparation (the training room houses a refrigerator and stove), and stress management.One stress that may be alleviated at OHI is the heavy burden of insurance questions; OHI accepts all types , White said - including Medicare."We are not going to let something like insurance stop us," White said.

Dr. Joseph White founded Optimum Health Wellness Center in 2004.He had a vision for nearly 10 years of establishing a practice that would help people find health and healing by emphasizing natural and less toxic remedies along with a balanced life style.

He received his Bachelor of Arts, Master of Science and Doctor of Medicine Degrees from the University of Missouri.In 1986 he completed an internship in General Surgery at Wayne State University after which he completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Henry Ford Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan.Dr. White is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine.He has held Medical Directorships in three emergency medicine departments over the past 10 years.He recently earned Board Certification in Anti-Aging Medicine from the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.Dr. White is on staff in the Department of Internal Medicine at St. Dominic Hospital and River Oaks Hospital.

Dr. White's interest in nutrition and preventive health care has grown over the years.He conducts Health seminars for church and civic groups in his desire to help people improve their health and quality of life.

He has been married for over 34 years to his high school sweetheart, Alice.
