John White, who started his Vancouver land-use consulting business 30 years ago in his attic, has sold the company to a national engineering firm.
The move will allow The JD White Co.Inc. to break into new territory, said White, owner and president.
JD White will retain its name, staff and downtown location as a wholly owned subsidiary of Berger/ABAM Engineers Inc., a Washington-based affiliate of The Berger Group, among the world's leading engineering consortiums.
White said he was impressed by the company's international work.Based in Federal Way, Berger/ABAM's large-scale civil engineering projects stretch from Canada to Panama.
"Now our staff is going to have the opportunity to work on projects outside our Oregon and Washington base," White said Wednesday at the Hilton Vancouver Washington, during a press conference announcing the sale.
