Jessica White, of Jessica White Associates, said she knows from personal experience that telephone solicitations are effective with some people.White, of Indianapolis, advises nonprofits on fund-raising issues.
"When I looked at the list, I was appalled at the percentage of money some of the companies get," said White, the former director of development for The Children's Museum of Indianapolis.
She suggested nonprofits shop around with different telemarketers to ensure no more than 20 percent to 40 percent of the funds raised go to expenses."If it's more than that, I think donors will become very skeptical of what you are doing," she said.
