  About Fire Chief James White:
  
  Chief White began his firefighting career on August 8, 1977 with the Prichard Fire Department in Prichard , Alabama . He ascended through the ranks having served in every position. He was promoted to Fire-Service Driver in 1984, Captain in 1986, District Chief in 1993 and finally to Fire Chief in 1998. Chief White retired from the Prichard Fire Department in December 2006. Chief White began his second career in the fire service when he was hired as the Fire Chief for the City of Daphne in August 2007.
  
  Chief White holds a degree in Fire Science from Bishop State Community college and a Bachelors degree in Business Management from Dillard University in New Orleans , Louisiana .
  
  Chief White has served on the Daphne Utility Board and presently serves as a member of the Daphne Planning Commission; he is a board member for the Daphne Boys and Girls Club and Executive Patron for the Baldwin County Board of Education.

  "This is the most jobs we've ever performed during any one month in our history," Fire Chief James White said."We had a 24 percent jump in service demands the first six months of this year.Last year, we had a 26 percent increase."BCFD's firefighters assisted residents and businesses in Franklin, too, as June 7 flooding destroyed millions of dollars in property. And more calls for help followed the week of June 8 as water-soaked dirt shed several inches of rain that blew across the area.In the flooding aftermath, BCFD's Fire District had roads washed out and several farmers lost hundreds of acres of crops."Our equipment suffered, too,"White said.

  On Monday, James "Bo" White, former head of the Prichard Fire Department, was named Daphne's new fire chief with a 5-2 vote of the council.

  According to the city's pay table for public safety officials, the new chief will make $51,041 annually.When a new City Council is sworn in next fall, White will come before the council for re-appointment consideration, along with the city clerk and police chief.

  Brooks said he and other firefighters didn't see the letter or hear about it before this week.Furthermore, Brooks said he's happy, as most of the department is, that the council has named White as chief.

  The money goes to the county's volunteer firefighters association to help with countywide programs, which are usually related to fire education and prevention, Bargersville Fire Chief Jim White said.
  
  Though this year's proceeds have not been designated for a specific project, in the past money has helped purchase a smoke trailer to show children fire dangers and helped firefighters distribute devices such as smoke detectors, he said. (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
