On Monday, James "Bo" White, former head of the Prichard Fire Department, was named Daphne's new fire chief with a 5-2 vote of the council.

According to the city's pay table for public safety officials, the new chief will make $51,041 annually.When a new City Council is sworn in next fall, White will come before the council for re-appointment consideration, along with the city clerk and police chief.

Those council members, along with City Council President Greg Burnam, voted in favor of White.

If you would like to see this fire department once again placed in a position of mediocrity ... then go ahead and put Mr. White in as the fire chief."
Brooks said he and other firefighters didn't see the letter or hear about it before this week.Furthermore, Brooks said he's happy, as most of the department is, that the council has named White as chief.
