Rev. James L White, 76 of DeBary Florida died on March 6, 2007 as the result of pneumonia following treatment for cancer.He was a retired Methodist Minister from New York.A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church of Orlando, 142 East Jackson Street with Rev. Rodney C. Wallace officiating.Rev. (Jim) White and his wife Dorothy of 53 years, attended the First United Methodist Church of Orlando regularly and enjoyed Bach Festival Society concerts in Winter Park.Besides love of music and family, Jim enjoyed working part-time at a number of local businesses.He and his wife moved to DeBary in 1997 from Plainfield New Jersey.Jim White was born in Wilson North Carolina in 1930 to the late Eugene and Verna White.

Jim White's family moved from North Carolina to Taunton Massachusetts in 1933.He was educated at Boston University, receiving an A.B. Degree from the College of Liberal Arts and a Masters of Divinity from the School of Theology.He met his wife Dorothy in 1951 while serving as an assistant minister at Central UMC in Brockton Massachusetts where they also married.Jim was ordained by the United Methodist Church and served in the New England Southern Conference as pastor to East Braintree Massachusetts, Thompsonville and Danielson Connecticut before moving to the New York Conference as Director of Youth Work on the Conference Board of Education in 1960.As Director of Youth Work he also served as camp director at camp Quinipet on Shelter Island until 1964 when he was appointed to Simpson UMC in Amityville New York.In 1968 he was appointed associate pastor to Memorial UMC of White Plains New York where he served until his appointment to pastor at Floral Park UMC in 1972.In 1978 he served as chaplain and later general manager at Bethel Springvale Inn and assistant director of the Bethel Methodist Homes in Croton-on-Hudson/Ossining, New York.He was elected to the Lakeland School Board Shrub Oak, New York.In 1983 he was appointed administrator of Friendly Acres retirement home in Newton Kansas and served there until returning east.Prior to retiring in 1997, Jim returned to his roots as loving pastor serving in Gardnertown, Saint James, and Bronx: City Island in New York.
