Prior to joining Miller & Chevalier in 1998, Mr. de Gravelles was an associate for Shwalb, Donnenfeld & Silbert in Washington, D.C. While there, he assisted in criminal defense matters including cases involving a federal probe into the issuance of gaming licenses in Louisiana, a state criminal charge brought against a federal law enforcement officer, and alleged violations of a U.S. trade embargo.Mr. de Gravelles also assisted in complex civil litigation, which included cases relating to government contracts, legal malpractice, and the commercial student loan industry.From 1995 to 1997, he worked as an associate for Greenberg Glusker Fields Claman & Machtinger in Los Angeles, California, and his work focused primarily on insurance coverage disputes and commercial real estate litigation.
Mr. de Gravelles has worked on a variety of pro bono projects, including handling political asylum applications, dealing with a breach of contract lawsuit, and teaching divorce clinics at the Los Angeles Free Clinic.In 1997, he received the Wiley W. Manuel Award for Pro Bono Services, which is awarded by the Board of Governors for the State Bar of California.He currently serves as a guardian ad litem for the Family Law Division of the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.
Mr. de Gravelles attended the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law, where he founded the Criminal Law Society.Mr. de Gravelles is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.Prior to attending law school, Mr. de Gravelles spent over four years as a special agent with the U.S. State Department.He graduated, magna cum laude, from Georgetown University.
