FR. WHELAN, S.J., a doctoral student at the Harvard Law School, is a member of the bar of the District of Columbia and of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Fr. Charles M. Whelan, S.J., is the longest serving editor in America's history. A lawyer specializing in constitutional law, Fr. Whelan has argued cases before the Supreme Court. While working at America also taught law at Fordham University in New York and worked for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. He retires from the magazine this May after more than 40 years of service. In this short video, he recalls the first piece he wrote for the magazine.
