According to Bernardo Fernandez, M.D., chief executive officer of Cleveland Clinic in Florida, the new appointments include Steven Wexner, M.D., chief academic officer; Juan Nogueras, M.D., chief medical officer; Mark Sesto, M.D., chairman of the Division of Surgery; and Kerry Major, R.N., chief nursing officer.

Dr. Wexner's appointment as Cleveland Clinic's first chief academic officer formalizes its education and research efforts in Florida and aligns them with its overall mission to integrate clinical medicine, education and research.
He will oversee institutional research and educational activities, including graduate medical education and allied health and professional staff academic affairs.
Dr. Wexner began his career at Cleveland Clinic in Florida in 1988 and has served as chairman of the Department of Colorectal Surgery since 1993, as well as chief of staff from 1997 to 2007.
He is also the immediate past president of SAGES, the largest general surgery society in the U.S.
Dr. Wexner obtained his medical degree from Cornell University in New York.
