Dart WestphalBronx Council on Environmental Equality:The generation of people that created a lot of Bronx institutions in the '60's and '70's from the museum to the Council for Environmental Equality to the Bronx Council on the Arts, really created some organizations that have helped the Bronx over the years that have gotten us a little bit ahead in arts and environment. We are the borough of parks.A quarter of the Bronx is parkland.I always say that it means the parks are important to us because if the parks are dirty, a larger percentage of our borough is dirty. The water to the city comes though the Bronx. The trains all come through here to Manhattan.
