The bees, a gift from Luther Weiland, were removed from their former Lynchburg home and resettled temporarily in Rustburg before they arrived here.
Our generous benefactor is a long-time friend of the Cemetery who, in addition to his current beekeeping responsibilities, has assumed the role of a gravedigger during special events at the Cemetery. His wife, Nancy, a genealogy researcher at the Jones Memorial Library, is an expert on Lynchburg's bawdy ladies and she presents an annual program focusing on this colorful aspect of our city's history.
Thanks to Mr. Weiland's generous gift, the Cemetery is enjoying the benefits of its own resident pollinators and honey producers. We proudly announce our first harvest of Died and Gone to Heaven honey. You too can enjoy the fruits of our bees' labor ; one pound and half pound jars are available at the Cemetery Center for $ 5 and $ 3 respectively.
