   Scottsdale-based Montage Holdings LLC and its principal Garth Wieger are leading the development effort for the Amaranth project. The planned development is located in mostly rural southwestern Maricopa County in the Mobile area off of State Route 238, in between Interstates 10 and 8 and along the planned Loop 303 Freeway being built in the West Valley.
   
   Wieger said the union asked him to help unionize Chas Roberts Air Conditioning Inc. Wieger said he has had personal ties to the company for a number of years and served as an adviser to the heating and air conditioning company.
   
   "They zoomed in on that," Wieger said.
   
   He said the union asked him to work to help unionize the Roberts Co. Wieger said that he decided to step down from his Roberts advisory post when it appeared there might be a problem and he told the union he did not have the power to influence the company's labor polices.
   
   The union has had some disagreements with the Roberts company over the years, Wieger said.
   
   The developer and home-builder worries the union is challenging the Goodyear annexation and his Amaranth development because of the Roberts situation.
   
   Union officials either declined or could not immediately be reached for comment on their Goodyear ballot effort. The Phoenix-based Local 359 is part of the Washington D.C.-based Sheet Metal Workers International Association.
   
   Montage executives Wieger and Tim Keenan say they are looking to make the area a commercial and employment center as well as a large suburban residential area.

Wieger founded and led several investment, development and home building companies including GW Holdings, Journey Homes, a Phoenix area homebuilder, which was acquired by Taylor Woodrow plc in 2002, and was CEO of UDC Homes which was sold to Shea Homes in 1998. In addition, Mr. Wieger was President of Shea Homes' Arizona division.
