   The committee is divided into four subcommittees that focus on candidates, issues and policies, fundraising and public relations, said Greg Weggeman, the group's treasurer.
   
   "We want more educated, better leaders in some of these positions to make better decisions," Weggeman said. "An awful lot of the time, the voting that has occurred on the council and county level has been motivated by special interest groups that have been contrary to a lot of business interests."
   
   Weggeman, a director of investments at Wachovia Securities, said the committee will empower businesspeople who have refrained from speaking out politically in the past because they feared retribution in the form of lost business.

   The group will also be weighing in on issues like lowering taxes, shared services and the proposed city takeover of ambulance service from Orange Cross Ambulance, which Weggeman said is a bad idea.
