Ralph is Director of the JISC Legal Information Service for the Further and Higher Education sector in the UK.Please see www.jisc.ac.uk/legal.The Service began in September 2000 and the website went live in May 2001.He is based at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, the lead site for the Service, which has close links with the Law School there.The Service employs four other staff at Strathclyde including two lawyers.Ralph gives presentations on legal issues and recently chaired and spoke for a Panel Session at the 11th WWW conference held in the USA in May 2002.Ralph Weedon also holds the institutional post of Internet Copyright Officer for the University of Strathclyde, which is based in the Department of Learning Services.The department incorporates audio-visual media services, IT training for staff and students, IT for special needs students and research in a number of areas such as CAA, online learning, VLE/MLE and Virtual Universities.
Prior to joining Strathclyde, Ralph was coordinator for the TLTP History project at the University of Glasgow, which included responsibility for copyright (www.gla.ac.uk/~histtltp/index.htm).
For some 8 years at the University of Leicester he was responsible for an Information Technology course aimed at graduates in the Humanities and Social Sciences.For 5 years after his first degree he was computer officer for a professional organisation in London.He holds a Masters degree in English Local History and an Honours degree in History and Geography.He is not a lawyer.
