    DR. TAMSEN BANKS WEBB, 52, educator and child advocate, resident of Chapel Hill, died on Thursday September 26, 2002 at her home.A 1972 graduate of Mount Holyoke College, Tamsen Webb taught in Durham County Schools from 1972-1976 and earned a Master of Education and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she served on the clinical faculty of the School of Education from 1981-1994.Dr. Webb worked as an early childhood curriculum specialist in Orange County Schools and as staff development coordinator for elementary schools in Durham Public Schools.She served as principal of Oak Grove Elementary School from 1996-1998 and then coordinated the early literacy initiative in Durham Public Schools.Dr. Webb joined the faculty of Duke University's Program in Education in 1999 as the Director of the Elementary Teacher Preparation Program.Tamsen Webb is survived by her husband of twenty-nine years, E. Leland Webb, of the UNC School of Dentistry faculty; their daughter, Bethany of Washington, DC; and their son, Peter, a junior at Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT; also surviving are her parents, John and Marie Banks of Chapel Hill, NC as well as a sister, Heather of Gaithersburg, MD; and a brother, Peter of Charlotte, NC.

    A memorial service to celebrate the life of Tamsen Banks Webb will be conducted at 3 PM on Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at the United Church of Chapel Hill with Rev. Richard Edens officiating.Friends may greet the family following the service in the fellowship hall.A private interment service will be held by the family at a later date.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Tamsen's Book Webb in care of the Pediatric Hemotology-Oncology Trust Fund.Division of Pediatric Hemotology/Oncology Attn: Dr. Stuart Gold UNC-CH CB #7220 Burnett-Womack Bldg., Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7220.Contributions are tax deductible.This fund was established in memory of Tamsen Webb and will provide books of hope and support for pediatric cancer patients and their families at UNC Hospitals.Arrangements are being handled by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, www.cremationsocietyofthecarolinas.com.
